Father Akakios offers a valuable overview of the problems associated with organ donations and transplants. For Orthodox Christians, the heart is far more than a physical organ; it is, indeed, the spiritual center of the human person, and cannot be transplanted from one person to another without grave consequences for the soul of the recipient.
     About the Author
The Very Reverend Akakios, Abbot of the St. Gregory Palamas Monastery, received his doctoral degree in advanced pastoral studies at the San Francisco Theological Seminary.
